Art has always been a passion––but a passion deferred until the past year. It started when I was twelve when I won a regional contest for drawing. A pencil drawing of a bust of Minerva, helmet and all, earned me a scholarship at the local art institute. Circumstances did not allow me to take advantage of my prize, so for forty-three years my sole indulgence in pursuing my passion became sketches done while sitting in various places waiting for various appointments and people. Many sketches were of surrounding landscapes and landmarks, while others were of people around me. All of them were destined for the landfill.
While dealing with yet another appointment, I took a moment to pop into a local establishment which touted art lessons. After speaking with the teacher, I realized that I could now take the time to pursue what I’d been interested in all those years ago. I signed on and have been happily oil painting for a little over a year.
I now have more time to concentrate on artistic endeavors. I have finished my career in education and currently work as an education consultant on my own schedule and as the administrative assistant to my husband in his work as a minister. I find I appreciate the time I can spend with my husband and on various art-related pastimes. I hope you enjoy my work.
